Our CORE Team

Who’s behind the LTAD Network?

The LTAD Network is led by a team of coaches, educators, researchers and sport scientists with decades of experience developing youth athletes in real-world settings.

Founders

The LTAD Network was founded in 2015 by James Baker and Dr. Mike Young—two leaders with a deep passion for long-term athlete development and a shared commitment to raising the standard of coaching and performance worldwide.

James Baker

James is a strength and conditioning coach, qualified PE teacher, and applied researcher with over 15 years of experience supporting youth athletes. He has worked across schools, academies, and national talent pathways.

Dr. Mike Young

Mike is a sport scientist and performance coach with more than two decades of experience working across Olympic, collegiate, and professional sport. He brings a deep understanding of applied athletic development principles and has contributed to coach education globally.

Ben Thompson

Ben supports the LTAD Network as a strategist and digital architect, combining marketing savvy, business development insight, and technical leadership. With a strong track record in platform creation and growth, he ensures your experience is both seamless and impactful.

Advisory Board

Our advisory board brings together some of the most respected minds in youth athletic development—ensuring our content is always practical, relevant, and evidence-informed.

Dr Joe Eisenmann

Joe is a researcher, coach, and educator with 25+ years of experience in youth athletic development. He’s widely recognized for his expertise in growth, maturation, and talent identification—supporting sport organizations, schools, academies and governing bodies around the world. 

Ranell Hobson

Ranell is a specialist in speed and power development with over 25 years of experience. She is  currently the Head of S&C at The Hills Sports High School, NSW—and was named ASCA Performance Development Coach of the Year in 2019.

Simon Brundish

Simon is a sport scientist specialising in youth athlete development and performance. He leads the StrengthLab Superheroes program and was named UKSCA Youth S&C Coach of the Year in 2023 for his innovative work in youth sport.

Tulshi Varsani

Tulshi is a performance coach and strategist, formerly the first Performance Manager for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One. She brings expertise from working with young motorsport drivers, tailoring training to growth patterns to boost performance and protect long-term wellbeing.

Howard Green

Howard is an S&C coach with extensive experience in developing elite junior and professional tennis players. As Head of Performance at Bolton Arena and founder of SuperMovers, he specialises in improving movement quality, physical preparation, and coach education.
